About me (and this blog)

Hi there! Welcome to my about page.

I’ve set up this blog for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I think that the way we eat, use and think about food has changed even over the last one hundred years, and so I’m using the National Archives of Australia’s digitised collection to explore this theory. What did we cook? What was considered a healthy and balanced diet? What did people eat at special dinners?

Secondly, there are some very interesting stories to tell from the files. Food is as good as any other way as starting to uncover some of those stories.

Finally, I may (although I can’t promise this) try out some of the recipes I post to see how they work. I’ll let you know how that goes.

I work at the National Archives, and I think that the collection is largely under-utilised online. However, you should note that everything I say on this blog is my own personal opinion, not that of the Archives.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
